Nebbiolo – power, elegance & ageing potential from northern Italy
Nebbiolo is one of the noblest and longest-lived red wine varieties in Italy. The grape variety originates from Piedmont and forms the basis for legendary wines such as Barolo, Barbaresco and Gattinara. The name ‘Nebbiolo’ is probably derived from the Italian word nebbia (fog) – a reference to the autumnal mists that envelop the vineyards of Piedmont.
Nebbiolo is characterised by its pronounced acidity, high tannins and complex aromas that are ideal for ageing. The wines show intense notes of roses, violets, red cherries, tar, leather, truffles and earthy nuances. Despite their power, they always appear elegant and multi-layered.
🔹 Barolo DOCG: The most powerful Nebbiolo, structured, with great ageing potential.
🔹 Barbaresco DOCG: Slightly more accessible, feminine and elegant than Barolo.
🔹 Nebbiolo d’Alba / Langhe Nebbiolo: Fruitier, drinkable at a younger age, ideal introduction to the grape variety.
➡ Thanks to its structure and flavour, Nebbiolo is an outstanding partner for mature cheeses, mushroom dishes, truffles and fine meat dishes.
